Founded in 2008, VGU is a key component in the educational cooperation between Vietnam and Germany, specifically between the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and the Hessen State Ministry of Science, Higher Education, and the Arts (HMWK). VGU follows the principles of academic freedom, institutional autonomy, and unity of teaching and research. Our mission is to become a leading research-oriented university in Vietnam and South East Asia.

VGU currently has 14 study programs, focusing on High-Tech Engineering, Information Technology, and Business. For any study program, either at the Bachelor’s level or Master’s level, we offer a research-enriched curriculum complemented by work-integrated experiences. This approach ensures that VGU graduates are well-prepared for their next steps, whether they choose to pursue a career in academia or in industry.

Alongside with education and training activities, VGU conducts researches for the socio-economic development of Vietnam and the region using cutting-edge science and technology. Our research groups work on three key areas, including (1) Production Technology and Sustainable Manufacturing, (2) Sustainable Urban Development and Transportation, and (3) Computer Sciences and IT.

Currently, VGU’s teaching and research activities involve about 1,800 students and 160 faculty members and staff. The university is primarily located in Thu Dau Mot City, Binh Duong, and has another small campus in Ho Chi Minh City to facilitate graduate studies. VGU’s new campus in Ben Cat is now under construction and will be opened in late 2020. This campus will cover a total area of over 50 hectares, consisting of laboratories, classrooms, sports center, food courts, and residential units for 12,000 students.
