In 2024, the global economy is increasingly adopting eco-friendly practices, and the Green Circular Economy (GCE) is gaining momentum. Businesses must navigate this change smartly to reap benefits and avoid risks. The GBA Business Luncheon on ‘Profiting from the Green Circular Economy’ launched in Hanoi on June 20, aims to offer key insights into how businesses can flourish in a sustainable and profitable manner amidst the shifting economic climate.
The event, chaired by GBA Vice-Chairman Mr. Torben Minko, featured insights from experts: Mr. Simon Kreye from German Embassy Hanoi, Dennis Quennet from GIZ, Mr. Dirk Hartmann from tesa Site Haiphong and Mr. Rob Renton from Puma. The meeting lasted for two hours and concluded with a summary of the key points and best practices:
○ Mr. Kreye underscored the pivotal importance of the GCE in fostering sustainable growth and Germany’s commitment to aiding Vietnam’s eco-friendly transformation, with a focus on waste reduction and resource preservation.
○ Mr. Quennet addressed the challenges Vietnam faces due to traditional economic models, excessive resource use, and environmental pollution. He stressed the importance of adopting circular economic strategies to cut costs and unlock new commercial prospects, while also discussing the supportive policy environment and the necessity for infrastructural enhancements and heightened public consciousness.
○ Mr. Hartmann celebrated tesa’s sustainability milestones achieved in 2023, including a notable 60% decrease in air freight and a 38% cut in CO2 emissions. He set forth ambitious goals for 2030, aiming for carbon-neutral operations and a greater reliance on recycled and organic materials. Hartmann also showcased pioneering products like tesa® 4965 Original Next Gen and tesafilm® Eco & Crystal, designed to minimize environmental impact and improve resource efficiency.
○ Mr. Renton introduced Puma’s RE:FIBRE initiative, an innovative program repurposing polyester fabrics into fresh apparel. He elaborated on the strategy to expand this initiative, integrate consumer waste, and boost supply chain visibility. Renton highlighted the critical role of supportive legislation and enhanced waste management systems.
The session witnessed a highly interactive audience, keen on the tangible implementation of circular economy principles within Vietnam. The experts responded to queries from the audience, emphasizing the need for a united approach among the government, corporate sector, and consumers to foster sustainable growth.
