It was a pleasure to join the Europe Day 2026 celebration hosted by the EU Delegation to Vietnam at Sofitel Saigon Plaza, marking 36 years of EU–Vietnam diplomatic relations.
The event welcomed Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha – Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Ambassador Julien Guerrier – Head of the EU Delegation to Vietnam, Ms. Andrea Sühl – German Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, together with representatives from European chambers and businesses, including German Business Association, Mr. André de Jong – GBA Board Member/EuroCham Delegate and Ms. Le Quynh Anh – Executive Director of GBA and Mr. Peter Kompalla – Chief Representative of AHK Vietnam.
Vice Chairman Nguyen Loc Ha shared that following the merger with Binh Duong and Ba Ria–Vung Tau provinces, Ho Chi Minh City is opening broader opportunities for EU partners in trade and investment, science and technology, innovation, green logistics, international financial center development, climate change response, education, culture, and people-to-people exchange. He also noted that the EU’s commitment to sustainable development, combined with Ho Chi Minh City’s dynamic, open and innovative spirit, will create impactful economic cooperation projects that bring long-term value to the community.
Ambassador Julien Guerrier reaffirmed that over the past decades, the EU and Vietnam have built a deep and forward-looking partnership with increasingly strong economic ties. He further highlighted the EU’s role as a strategic partner supporting Vietnam’s growth ambitions through investment, technology and cooperation in energy infrastructure, transport, semiconductors and AI.
