On June 3, 2024, the German Business Association (GBA) convened its monthly meeting at Le Méridien Saigon, drawing 62 attendees. The meeting was chaired by GBA Board members Dr. Oliver Massmann from Duane Morris Vietnam and Mr. Johannes Klausch from Luther Law Vietnam. The hosts delivered a dynamic presentation titled “Data Protection Laws in Vietnam: The Basics and Guidance for Practical Handling”. This was followed by a lively panel discussion featuring panelists Mr. James Nguyen from INTO University Partnerships and Mr. Truong Duc Luong from Vietnamese Security Network JSC (VSEC). Together, they shared their practical experiences in navigating privacy regulations within their respective businesses.
From Vietnam’s standpoint, Decree 13/2023/ND-CP on privacy data protection (PDPD) significantly impacts foreign investors. It outlines obligations for foreign investors, provides compliance guidelines, and highlights crucial provisions that foreign investors must be aware of.
Participants gained insights into the practical application of Vietnam’s Personal Data Protection Decree (PDPD) for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Notably, the speakers drew parallels with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This contextualization of the new decree was based on their extensive experience in international data protection law.
During the event, the GBA Board members and attendees bid farewell to Mr. Johannes Klausch, a vital member of the GBA Board in 2024. They expressed deep appreciation for his excellent contributions and dedication. With his ample expertise, Mr. Klausch will continue building bridges to Vietnam and South-East Asia from Germany and maintain his deep connections with the GBA and the German business endeavors in the region.
