GBA Excursion to Vietnamese-German University (VGU) New Campus

Ho Chi Minh City, Thursday, 18 May – Following our successful excursion series in 2022, we kicked off the first excursion trip in 2023 to the Vietnamese – German University (VGU) in Binh Duong.

Their newly built campus with total investment capital of US$200 million is a part of “The Vietnam New-Model University Project” – a joint effort between the World Bank, the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training and the German Hessen State Ministry of Science and Art – to develop an internationally accredited higher education program for research and professional advancement for Vietnamese students.

The campus was designed in the concept of an eco-friendly ‘academic town’ rather than a ‘campus as one big building’. The design contains a number of sophisticated measures aimed at reducing emission and energy consumption, and features sustainable drainage systems including ponds, swales and storm water recycling, and intelligent use of locally sourced materials.

Set within a total land area of 50.5 ha, the development consists of five primary areas: academic and research, science park, sports and support services, student residences, and faculty housing. The facilities of the Vietnamese-German University will be able to train 6,000 students by 2030 in accordance with the standards of German and international universities. The school currently has about 2,400 Vietnamese students and 70 foreign students.

During the trip, we also had an opportunity to engage with the students to introduce about our dedicated project “GBA Business Challenge – Season IV“. This is an effort of the German business community in Vietnam to create a platform for the young local talents to turn their ideas into a proper business.

Our big thanks to the VGU’s president Prof. Dr. Tomas Benz and the whole VGU team, without their unwavering support our excursion would not have been possible. We also thank all participants for joining us, and we look forward to welcoming you to our upcoming excursions.
