Direct Help in Challenging Times – GBA & VGFA Covid-19 Donation Campaign

The 4th wave of Covid-19 in Vietnam is still ongoing. The citizens of Ho Chi Minh City are practicing strict social distancing. While many office employees apply “work from home”, it is undeniable that the extended period of necessary preventive measures takes a toll on less privileged people.
To help where it is needed the most, the German Business Association (GBA) and the Vietnam–Germany Friendship Association (VGFA) started the joint donation campaign “Hỗ trợ để vượt qua khó khăn – Direct help in challenging times”.

The GBA and the VGFA members followed the call and until now, we were able to collect a total amount close to 550.000.000 VND.

Upon receiving the donation we are aligning with our partner Saigon Co.op, to ensure not only a hurdle-free distribution in HCMC, an operation that comes with the challenge of the blockade of several parts of the city, but also the safety and quality of the goods which will last a family for at least one week. So far, the combined donations of GBA members and VGFA members cover the supply for almost 3000 households.

To identify the people that are in need the most, we are working directly together with the ward – so we can deliver the donation to each family personally.
So far, the donations are distributed in neighborhoods in the following districts: District 4, 8, 12, Go Vap, Hoc Mon, Binh Thanh, Binh Chanh and Thu Duc City.

Alexander Goetz, Chairman of the GBA joined the distribution and shares: “The situation and circumstances under which so many families here have to survive during this sharp lockdown is dire. The positive attitude that I witnessed despite the hardships gives hope. Nevertheless, I hope that we can soon get back to normal and life gets easier for the citizens of HCMC.”
