HCMC, 8 August | A significant milestone in Vietnam’s journey of innovation and digital transformation – GBA was honored to join the grand opening ceremony of SAP Labs Vietnam with plans to invest over €150 million over the next five years.
SAP Labs Vietnam is headquartered at The Nexus, right in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, and is SAP’s second innovation hub in Southeast Asia (after Singapore). Vietnam is also one of only 20 countries worldwide where SAP has invested in an R&D center, demonstrating SAP’s long-term commitment to the Asia-Pacific region. This also reinforces its dedication to enhancing local digital capabilities and positioning Vietnam as one of the region’s most dynamic technology markets.
The new center will play a key role in supporting SAP’s product development, particularly in core areas such as sustainable digital supply chains and intelligent enterprise solutions powered by artificial intelligence.
The inauguration was graced by the presence of H.E. Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam; Mr. Ho Sy Hung, Vice Minister of Finance; H.E. Mrs. Helga Margarete Barth, German Ambassador to Vietnam; and Mr. Vu Quang Minh, former Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany — a powerful reflection of the growing strategic ties between Vietnam and Germany.
The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized the need to build an inclusive and dynamic innovation ecosystem—one that attracts not only domestic talent but also overseas Vietnamese and international experts. He particularly called on SAP to replicate its R&D center model across Vietnam, establish labs, and develop shared research facilities at the National Innovation Center (NIC) and local universities, turning SAP’s R&D centers into key convergence points for connecting Vietnam’s global tech talent network.
Adding to the significance of the event, key leaders from SAP Global also joined the celebration, including Thomas Saueressig, Member of the Executive Board of SAP SE for Customer Services & Delivery; Philipp Herzig, Chief Technology Officer and Chief AI Officer, Member of the Extended Executive Board of SAP SE; Simon Davies, President of SAP Asia Pacific; Clas Neumann – Senior Vice President and Head of Global SAP Labs Network (China, BRIC, US, Europe) and Liher Urbizu, President and Managing Director of SAP Southeast Asia.
Representing GBA, Mr. Martin Koerner – GBA Vice Chairman, Mr. Dirk Arend – Board Member, Ms. Quynh Anh Le – Executive Director of GBA, and Mr. Peter Kompalla – Chief Representative of AHK Vietnam, extended their warm congratulations to SAP on this remarkable milestone.
SAP Labs Vietnam is not only a new workspace but also a center of innovation in AI, cloud computing, and enterprise software development, helping position Vietnam as an integral part of SAP’s global tech network.
Congratulations to SAP on this exciting “Welcome to Tomorrow” journey – where Vietnamese talent meets global technology to co-create the future!
